Happy Friday, everyone! I’m still down here with my family in Osage Beach, Missouri after keynoting the Midwest Tech Talk, a K12 technology conference that was truly amazing, both in execution and in the overall awesomeness of everyone who attended. Seriously, this was very reminiscent of the MAEDS conference I have the pleasure of attending annually in Michigan. Shout out to Chris Warden, the event organizer, and every other person that made this very important sharing of ideas possible. I was glad to play a small part in it!
PowerShell 7.7 Preview 3 Brings Time Sortable UUIDs
PowerShell version 7.7 preview 3 is now available and running on the .NET 11 preview 6 framework. The biggest change updates the New Guid cmdlet to generate version 7 time sortable UUIDs by default. Scripts requiring purely random output must now call the system guid class directly. The team also fixed progress bar rendering for double width unicode characters and optimized packaging to deliver a minimum size payload for arm64 deployments.

July 2026 PowerShell Community Call and Platform Updates
The July 2026 PowerShell Community Call highlighted several important milestones. The team announced that PowerShell versions 7.4 and 7.5 will reach end of life in November. A preview for PowerShell 7.7 featuring .NET 11 integration is arriving soon. The team also released Platypus version 1.0.2 to resolve structural issues with MAML formatting. Furthermore the intermittent Lucene search indexing issue on the PowerShell Gallery has been successfully resolved.

Jake Hildreth recently joined the PowerShell Podcast to discuss his experiences presenting at the PowerShell Conference Europe and to highlight new updates to his open source Stepper module. The tool allows engineers to build resumable step by step scripts that eliminate the need to restart long running automation tasks if a failure occurs. Jake detailed recent additions including automatic logging and named steps before shifting the conversation to strongly advocate for taking dedicated time away from the keyboard to prevent industry burnout.
Jorge Suarez Put an Entire Slide Deck Inside Your Terminal
Jorge Suarez shipped a cross-platform PowerShell module that builds and delivers ANSI-rendered slide decks without ever leaving the console. Install-Module TerminalSlides, PowerShell 7.4+, MIT.
The slide DSL covers text, bullets, code, charts, diagrams, tables, quotes, boxes, notes, and images, driven by a fluent deck-building API. Eight built in themes ship out of the boxwith custom theme authoring if none of those fit. Interactive mode gives you keyboard navigation and a progress bar; non-interactive export targets CI and doc pipelines. Import and export runs through PSD1, JSON, Markdown, HTML, ANSI, and plain text.

Teams PowerShell 7.9 Adds WAM and Federated Chat Controls
Tony Redmond breaks down what shipped in the July 19 release of the Microsoft Teams PowerShell module. Two things matter here. First, Connect MicrosoftTeams now runs through Windows Account Manager for authentication, joining the Graph SDK and Exchange Online modules on that path, and yes, that means new fun with the ongoing assembly clash issue. Second, and more usefully, the module now exposes Set CsTenantFederationConfiguration options to lock down federated group chats through EnableExternalAccessRestrictionsForChatParticipants and EnableMutualFederationForChatParticipants. If federation control has been on your list, this is the release that gives it to you.

Best part is inline resolution: every address is checked against the directory and existing assignments and color-labeled before you submit, so typos and already-provisioned users surface first. Auto end-dates, stuck-request recovery, cross-platform MSAL auth. PowerShell 7 required. Delivery is async and takes three to six minutes, which is Microsoft's clock, not his.

Permissions Creep Can Kill Your Graph SDK Session
Tony Redmond hit a wall running Connect MgGraph with the Scopes parameter and traced it to something every long running tenant is heading toward. The Microsoft Graph Command Line Tools app collects delegated permissions every time someone consents to a new scope, and there is an undocumented ceiling somewhere around 140 permissions.
